and I STILL can’t tat

and I STILL can’t tat, originally uploaded by kellypuffs.

All I have to show for HOURS of trying to teach myself how to tat.

Left-handed.

Grrr.

  1. Theoretically, it’s a kind of lace-making.

I was going to quit, but Elizabeth at Grasshopper Handmade says “I’m quite enjoying tatting now that I’ve stopped wanting to throw it across the room”, so I’m going to persevere for a little while longer.

I’m still in the Throwing It Across the Room stage, which I like to think I have nearly perfected now, with the addition of a neatly timed foot stomp and strangled scream of frustration (patent pending).

  2. It is horrible at first, isn’t it? 🙂 When I finally got it, something just clicked for me and suddenly I was tatting. I’m sure you’ll get it. And once you do, it’s easy. Really.

Thanks for the comment and the reminder that I need to do some tatting–I never really made anything after I learned last year.

  3. I’ve always wanted to learn – think I’ll wait until the fall. Being frustrated by a new obsession in this heat… 🙂 Good luck. I *know* you’ll be an expert in no time.
