Bodie doesn’t grok the idea of playing “catch”.
He LOVES when you throw the ball for him.
He will chase down the ball with great enthusiasm, grab it and then run for the nearest Safe Place … either under the forsythia bush or in the middle of the violets, where he will gloat over his new toy.
